Hunker down

If that could also take out squadies on fire

May I add the suggestion that the animation of "Hunker Down" present the character as covering their head with their arms/hands for added protection to the head?

Additional Stances for PP Squaddies

It would be great if there was a 'Hunker Down' option in the Squad Menu, which makes Squaddies scrunch up into a foetal ball - like the Siren does - minimising the amount of extremities sticking out from behind Cover. Of course, if you're Hunkered Down, your perception is zilch and you can't RF or OW.
Also, it would be great to use the Stability Stance mechanics to enable Squaddies to go Prone &/or Mount MG on Low Cover.
Prone
: Cost 1AP to enter./exit - soldier lies down and gets a Stability Stance buff to accuracy. This would also alter his profile vs enemy fire.Mount MG: Cost 1AP to enter/exit - soldier takes up a Stability Stance with an HMG on Low Cover - this projects his starting aim point 1 tile
in front
of his position, effectively negating the LoS blockage of the parapet.E

Would suggest that prone not be equipped if the soldier has two handed weapons other than the sniper rifle. The assault cannot and grenade launcher don't make sense in a prone fire situation.
Somebody else mentioned it but the "Mount" option would be nice if there was a tripod that could be put down. Heck, make it an item to carry that either the heavy can carry themselves or another soldier can carry. Then it's 1 AP to deploy turret, 1 AP to mount. That opportunity cost for accuracy increases seems worth it. Also, have "mount" be available for Armadillo's when/if the top gun is shot off.
Have the tripod set up in a direction (like the force shields of the chosen) and give it only a fixed arc of fire (say, front 45 degrees). Make the weapon on the mount able to be abandoned too so, say, a heavy soldier with a cannon on tripod gets goo'd... rather than stay there in the open and be an easy target, they abandon their weapon and jet away drawing another weapon (pistol/rifle, etc.) eventually returning to their tripod as the situation warrants.
Tripods could come with different features too:
* Nothing - base configuration, standard tripod
* Forward facing heavy plate - New Jerico (forward shots hit ablative cover)
* Integrated shield array - Synedrion (360 degree protection but not as much as NJ's plate)
* Mobility Tentables - Disciples of Anu (tripod moves on it's own independent from the soldier).

I know that this has been merged, but hunkering down wasn't really what I was suggesting (I think that should happen also btw). My suggestion was more for situations where you are in the open, and just want to reduced the profile of your solider.

Soldier stances - Stand/Crouch/Prone

Allow soldiers to take different stances regardless of whether or not they are behind cover.
Even in the open I'd rather spend a little AP to get my soldier to crouch or go prone in order to reduce their target profile rather than have them standing in the open like a total goon who's just asking to be shot.

Hunker down only makes sense in a game like XCOM where they calculate the hit percentage differently.
However, more appropriate to PP would be to have stances (like in the original UFO games): standing, kneeled, prone. Combined with the superior (to the new XCOM) object modelling, it should give us a more realistic option to hunker down.

Florin Adrian: I disagree abut hunker down. It should be used behind low cover to make smaller target. Also when in hunker down position, head (with thin armor) is beyond cover so not exposed.
I agree about stances, I would like to see that in the game.
Tim Vit
Agree! I'm not sure about prone, but any soldier should have ability to crouch in any place, not only in covers.

Yeah like in the original XCom. That will be great.
it could also reduce the dodge on melee so it may increase the damage taken in such case

frt: Yeah, that's a nice idea too :-)

Additionally, Hunker Down might solve some cover issues. I get that if you're peeking around the tree trunk, you're get shot more easily from even slight angles. But if you just focus on protecting yourself and press against the tree, it would give better cover at the cost of blocking your own vision and preventing the use of overwatch/return fire.
