Ancient mining sites to be automated

Once you have taken the mining site you require a manned aircraft to gather the resources. Since the ancient sites have automatons for defence it makes sense that the sites are suitable for automatic mining, thus it fits in the story background. Since aircraft are scarce and expensive to manufacture i preferebly use them for story missions instead of mining. Basically rendering the DLC useless.

Personally I'd like to see a specialist aircraft that fulfills a logistics function. Cheap to build with relatively high movement and no weaponary. Have this simply fly between the ancient sites and a base once it is full, with the ability to automate or manually override and reposition.
This would free up armed aircraft and man power to do what they are suppose to do.

Or there should be an option to leave a squad there to defend the site and mine in the mean time

Marek Poprik: that would be cool i think. Like the OP said, the automatons were there... but you destroyed them all. It would make sense if you could leave a few soldiers to run the place. Or even add an unarmed scientist unit similar to the ones you rescue for the factions that can build ancient units to defend and run the factories and mines.

Jesse Zimmerman: Adding to this, the ancient sites could also just be bases similar to what Phoenix Point was already building. They don't need to have all the same options, but if you could build training facilities, medical bays and living quarters in them, that would already be plenty of reason to keep someone there.
